Mediation Seminar: The Lessons from Behavioural Economics – How We Make Decisions in Mediation and the Psychology of Conflict

Senior Australian Mediator, Nina Harding, will discuss how people make decisions and function when they are in conflict in this fast paced 2 hour session.  Some of the lessons from Behavioural Economics (the study of the effects of psychological, social, cognitive and emotional factors on the economic decisions of individuals) and how mediators facilitate parties to reach a settlement based on these lessons will be discussed.  Nina will comment on how people think and behave when they are in dispute and identify the most important issues affecting people’s behaviour.  She will also analyse how our values and beliefs affect our view of the world and how people make decisions so as to help parties make better lasting decisions in mediation.  There will be lots of practical and pragmatic tips and ideas for dealing with multifarious types of disputes that will fascinate any mediator.
