CPD workshop: Mediating International Commercial Disputes – What Do Parties Look For?” (2017)
“Mediating International Commercial Disputes – What Do Parties Look For?” is jointly organized by the Commercial Mediation Interest Group (“CMG”) and International Mediation Working Group (“IMWG”) of the Hong Kong Mediation Council (“HKMC”), a division of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (“HKIAC”).
Parties to commercial disputes involving multi-jurisdictions are increasingly seeking to resolve them by mediation. What are the expectations of these parties of the mediators? While exceptional mediation skills and techniques are a must, do they prefer a different mediation style? Commercial acumen? Sensitivity to cultural differences? Expertise in a particular industry? Language skills? Flexibility in the management of the process?
CMG and IMWG have therefore invited two eminent mediation practitioners, Mr. Lim Tat and Professor Christopher To to share with the audience their abundant experience in working with these parties from different jurisdictions, and the perspectives of those users. They will also speak about the essential qualities, attributes and competencies which the parties require of an international commercial mediator.
