CEO of FDRC sharing views on mediation trend at JMHO Mediation Conference 2013

(17 December 2013, Hong Kong) Ms. Sou Chiam, Chief Executive Officer of the FDRC spoke at the Joint Mediation Helpline Office (“JMHO”) Mediation Conference 2013 (“the Conference”) today to share her views on mediation development in Hong Kong.

Echoing the title of the Conference “The Amazing Changes with the New Mediation Ordinance and Latest Development in Hong Kong Mediation”, Ms. Chiam presented her speech and participated in the panel discussion on the topic “The Way Forward – Accreditation Body and Mediation Service Providers”. Her talk explained how the setting up of FDRC was in line with the requirements of Principle 9 of the G20 High-level Principles on Financial Consumer Protection. “As the leading provider of financial dispute resolution processes, FDRC supports Hong Kong as an international financial centre by resolving the differences between financial consumers and financial institutions before they escalate the disputes,” she said.

With a variety of topics in the Conference about mediation trends, numerous highly respected dispute resolution professionals discussed the scope of the Mediation Ordinance which came into force on 1st January 2013 and exchanged opinions on the future development of mediation in Hong Kong.

Senior representatives from the government and experts from professional bodies joined the Conference, including the Department of Justice, the Judiciary, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch), the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators,  the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Mediation Centre and the Hong Kong Mediation Council.
